As the 26th Anniversary of the King’s death passes, I ponder how his untimely death continues to impact us again and again. The “King”, also known as America’s beloved Elvis Presley, literally fell from the throne when, he was found by his girlfriend, dead in the bathroom. He was obviously “impacted’ as autopsy’s revealed 32-pounds of fecal matter in his colon, advanced hardening of the arteries, and an enlarged liver. It was later found that Elvis had been prescribed over 5300 different types of medications by his personal physician which also contributed to his death. I take a moment and reflect back at the cool and sexy “Hunk 0’ Burning Love” image Elvis revealed to his fans, and then horrified by the bloat-4 distorted and obviously exhausted glimpse we all got of him in the months prior to his death. What went wrong?

Drug overuse and abuse, an unhealthy lifestyle and well-known poor eating habits are probably a good starting point to that question. Elvis was “Full of it”. .Constipated and impacted with toxic waste. Constipation is anything but cool and sexy. It is hard to be cool and sexy when you are bloated, sluggish and full of C.R.A.P. (Caffeine, Refined sugar, Alcohol/Antibiotics, Processed foods/pollutants).

Constipation is the #1 digestive complaint in the U.S. Over 3 million people are constipated on a frequent basis.

What is considered normal?

Recent scientific research concludes that a healthy person should have at least one bowel movement per day. Some medical texts state however that individual variation goes from several times a day to several times a week. But it is observed by thousands of health professionals that individuals who didn’t eliminate daily, have more ~~health problems, including fatigue, gas, abdominal discomfort, skin conditions, allergies, depression, female disorders, headaches, insomnia, and low mental functioning.

If you have problems every once in a while, after a dietary indiscretion, this is not a concern. When your usual bowel habits include hard, dry, pellet size stools, or alternating bouts of diarrhea, you then have a problem of constipation.

Dangers of Constipation:

Being constipated puts a burden on the intestinal tract, and creates and internal bacterial imbalance.

Constipation, if continued over a long period of tune, can strain the liver as well as all other digestive organs. Elimination is essential to keeping the body from becoming a toxic waste site. The concept that poor elimination and constipation being at the root of many diseases was actually introduced in main stream medical society by Nobel prize winning biologist Elie Metehnikoff in the early 1900’s.

When the colon does not empty its waste in 18-24 hours, harmful toxins and antigens from undigested food become absorbed into the liver, lymph, and bloodstream. This results in autointoxication (self poisoning)

and may play a role in the development of Diabetes, migraines, colitis, thyroid disease, auto-immune diseases, and much more.

What causes it?

•     A diet of C.R.A.P.= Caffeine... Refined sugar... Alcohol/Antibiotic overuse... Processed foods/pollutants are contributors to constipation.

Insufficient water intake, lack of exercise, long term use of antacids and laxatives, prescription medications, low amounts of fiber, depression, have all been found to slow down the elimination process.

Constipation occurs if the waste moves too slowly through the intestines. The walls of your colon can weaken, which can create hernias in the wall, called diverticulosis. Slow transit time also promotes the growth of bad bacteria and creates toxic cancer causing substances that can get reabsorbed in your body.

The colon is key in absorption of water and nutrients. If the system is clogged with waste, dehydration and nutrient deficiencies occur. Constipation can give rise some of these symptoms:

Fatigue
Indigestion
Bloating
Bad breath
Headaches

Prolonged and severe constipation can create liver problems, arthritis, back-pain, as well as burden the immune system.

Treatment for constipation:

1.   Avoid the C.R.A.P. (caffeine, refined sugars, alcohol, and processed foods). But we Americans do not like to change our diet. We rather take a quick fix….pills, powders, and supplements. While these are good, nothing can substitute for “real” foods such as whole grains, dark green vegetables, and fruit.

2.   Exercise. You need to move in order to keep your intestines moving. Try it, you may like it.

3.   Water. Drink more water. Dehydration is an overlooked cause of constipation. Excessive sugared drinks dehydrate us. The average American consumes 566 cans of soda yearly. It’s no wonder we are chronically ill.

4.   Cleanse your body. Colon hydrotherapy can help keep your colon hydrated and cleansed. Colon hydrotherapy is not your mother’s enema any longer. Many of Hollywood’s “heart-throbs” are

talking about how they use colon therapy as part of~ their overall health regimes to stay cool and sexy. There are several choices in state of the art equipment available. Be sure to find a therapist who uses FDA approved equipment.

An Elvis Sighting

Colon hydrotherapy may have been one of the things that could have saved Elvis’s life. He may not have known better then, but we do know better now.

When I close my eyes, I can see Elvis the Pelvis.. .forever young. -Long live the King.

Elvis has left the building.
